A Celebration of Canada’s Multicultural Strength

Canada is not defined by a single origin story. It is shaped by many.

From Indigenous Nations who have stewarded this land for thousands of years, to generations of newcomers who brought language, culture, craft, and courage with them, Canada’s identity is woven from diversity. Multiculturalism is not a slogan here. It is the fabric of our daily life.

The Unity Shirt was created to honour that fabric.

At its center stands a red maple leaf. A symbol of Canadian gravitas.
Across it, a quiet reminder of who we strive to be:

Always Great. Forever Grateful.

Strength with humility. Pride with gratitude. Confidence without arrogance.

And surrounding the maple leaf, these words appear in some of the most widely spoken languages across Canada. The Unity Shirt does not attempt to list every language spoken in Canada. That would be impossible. Instead, it symbolizes something larger. Canada’s greatness does not come from uniformity. It comes from shared values expressed through different voices.

Why Canada Is Known for Multiculturalism

Canada officially adopted multiculturalism as policy in 1971, becoming the first country in the world to do so. Today, more than 20 percent of Canadians were born outside the country. Over 200 languages are spoken nationwide.

This diversity is not a challenge to overcome. It is a strength to celebrate.
